Biography: William G. Nickelson Jr., 87, of Bucyrus went home to be with his wife Betty on Monday March 9, 2015 at Country Meadow Care Center in Bellville following a brief illness. Bill was born Nov. 26, 1927 in Bucyrus to the late William G. and Ora Catherine (Cornelius) Nickelson. He was married to Betty Ruth (Heckert) Nickelson who preceded hi m in death on July 30, 2010. In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by sons Mervin “Henry” Nickelson and John “Johnny” Nickelson; grandson Grant Nickelson; brothers Eugene, Jack, and Ray; as well as sisters Ruth Miller and Joyce Hatcher.
William is survived by brother Jim Nickelson, FL; sons William Nickelson III and Jerry (Penney) Nickelson both of Bucyrus; grandchildren Randall Nickelson, Glenn Nickelson, Henry “Hank” (Amy) Nickelson; Mindy (Andy) Miller; and Belinda (Brandon) Nickelson; great grandchildren Colton and Catherine Nickelson, Steven Miller, Brylee Carter, Bryan Miller, Lillian, Andrew, and Alexander Nickelson.
Bill lived his entire life in Bucyrus. He enjoyed talking about the Navy and his dad. His hobbies were building model trains and flying his airplanes. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Bill worked for many years for the City of Bucyrus. He loved to tell people about his life history and could sit and talk for hours. Bill was a big story teller and could make anyone laugh. Bill loved music and had several favorite songs that he wished to share in his obituary, Box Car Willie - Last Train to Heaven, Jamey Johnson - In Color, George Jones - Never grow old, and The Judds - Grandpa.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with burial to follow in Liberty Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am on Friday until the time of service.
