Biography: William C. Lahman, 92, of Cleveland Heights, OH passed away quietly in his sleep Friday, February 6, 2015 following a yearlong convalescence. William was born May 25, 1922 south of Brokensword, OH to the late George and Mamie Floy Lahman. He was married Dec. 22, 1950 to Betty Jane (Schwartz) Lahman who survives in Cleveland Heights. He was also preceded in death by brother in law Richard Keller.
In addition to his wife, William is also survived by son Bill Lahman Jr. Of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Linda Kay (David Wood) Lahman of St. Louis MO; 2 grandchildren Andrei and Julia; sister Carol Keller of Bucyrus; nephew Donald Keller and niece Karen Lutz both of Columbus.
William was a 1940 graduate of Holmes Liberty H.S.and received a BA Degree at Heidelberg College in 1947 and a Masters Degree from Case Western Reserve in 1949. William was drafted into active duty Army from the Enlisted Reserve in 1943. His principle assignment-Administrative Duties with the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF). Gen. Eisenhower’s headquarters for the cross channel invasion of Europe during World War II. William held the rank of First Sergeant and continued with the Army Reserve from 1946-1951. He received the EAME Theatre Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Victory Medal and the German Occupation Ribbon. He was a member of American Legion Post #104 in Cleveland Heights.
William was a newspaper man and Co-owner and editor of the Rangely Driller in Rangely, CO weekly from 1949-1951 when he became the Rangely City Manager until 1955. From 1955-1959 William became the General Manager of a private residential and recreational community in Kansas City, KS. He became Assistant to the City Manager in Cleveland Heights until 1963 when in 1964 he became the City Manager of Cleveland Heights until 1975. William became the Secretary-Treasurer of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority and in 1981 took over the duties of General Manager which encompassed Cuyahoga Co. and three adjacent counties employing 2400 employees. He retired in 1985 from the RTA. Following retirement William became a consultant for independent investments and property management.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home at 1:00 pm. With Rev. Glory Geib officiating, burial will follow in Brokensword Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of service.
