Vera Marie McClure

Biography:  Vera Marie McClure of Bucyrus died Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 5:00 a.m. at the Galion Community Hospital.  Born July 20, 1915, the daughter of Aaron Daniel and Hannah Catherine Shafer Green, Vera was baptized on August 8, 1915, by Reverend Philip Dielmann and confirmed on May 5, 1929 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, New Washington by Reverend John Doescher.  She attended Red Run School in Liberty Township and graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1933.
 
Vera married Walter Louis McClure on June 26, 1938: he died on August 2, 1976. Together they had three children:  Barbara Aidt (deceased) whose children are John (Elissa) Aidt, Raymond (Lori) Aidt, and Karen “Miki” (Gary) Kornell; Sarah Jane (Elwood) Gebhardt of Bucyrus whose children are Elaine (Joe) Naples, Matthew Gebhardt, and Andrew Gebhardt; and John (Cheri) McClure of Columbus whose children are Guy Edmonds, David Edmonds, and Michael (Misty) Edmonds.
Great grandchildren include Rebekah (Lipok) Jamir, Walter, John Peter, Jacob, Hunter, Tyler, and Aaron (Kylie) Aidt; Daniel, Clarissa, and Ben Kornell; Elyse and Seth Naples; Matt Gebhardt, Jr.; Abby and Bethany Bolas .  Vera also had twelve great, great grandchildren.
 
In addition to her husband and daughter, Vera was also preceded in death by sisters Luetta (Maurice) Tuttle and Oleta (Roderick) Maple, niece and husband Ruth Ann (Luther) Lazar, special friend Bill Schaaf, great grandson Joe Aidt, nephew James Tuttle, and two great, great grandchildren. Surviving in addition to those listed above are nephew William (Dottie) Tuttle, great niece Hallie (Lee) Ferris and children Emma and Alex, and faithful friend Patty Neff.
 
Mrs. McClure was a homemaker and seamstress; she sewed for her family and did repair work for Koons Dry Cleaners while her children were in school.  Later she worked at Baumoel’s and at Clady’s Drugs where she assisted in the pharmacy, maintained the greeting card selection, and served customers at the soda fountain.  She also served as a Gray Lady at the Bucyrus City Hospital for a number of years.  For many years Vera enjoyed monthly luncheons with members of her 1933 graduating class, taking trips with the Bucyrus Travel Club and attending performances at the Little Theatre.  She liked working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, reading, and watching Fox News.
Vera was a long-time member of Good Hope Lutheran Church where she was in attendance every Sunday in 2013.  She taught Sunday school for pre-kindergarten children for many years, sang in the choir for sixteen years, kept church attendance records until recently, helped assemble the monthly church newsletter, and was an active member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. 
 
Calling hours will be at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon, August 10 from 1 to 4 and for an hour before the funeral service which will be at Good Hope Lutheran Church on Monday morning, August 11 at 11:00.  Gene Luidhardt, SAM will officiate and burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.  Memorials may be given to the Good Hope steeple fund or the radio fund or to the Capital Area Humane Society or the Crawford County Humane Society.
