Sylvia V. Ghist Gatchell

December 31, 1969 — April 27, 2013

Biography:  Sylvia V. Ghist Gatchell, 88, passed away on Thursday April 25, 2013 in Altercare of Bucyrus.  Sylvia was born June 11, 1924 in Bucyrus to the late Elger J. and Lulu Pearl (Martin) Pfleiderer.  She was first married to Donald E. Ghist on Oct. 31, 1948 and he preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1977.  In addition, she was preceded in death by her second husband Darl Gatchell; brother Richard; and sisters Marjorie and Mary Emma.
 
Sylvia is survived by son John (Ann) Ghist of Denver and granddaughter Rachel (Jason) Kramer of Denver.  
 
Sylvia graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1942 and for over 30 years operated Mrs. Ghist’s Nursery School on Elm St.  She lived most of her life in Bucyrus and moved to Marion 15 years ago.  She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Senior Center in Marion where she was active in the Creators and Bridge Groups.  For many years, Sylvia baked pies and made chicken sandwiches for Mac's Drive Inn.  
 
Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Don Neumann officiating, burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-4 pm.  The family suggests memorials be made to the Am. Kidney Foundation through the funeral home and expressions of sympathy can be made at munzpirnstill.com
