Biography: Sylvester H. “Sy” Zellner, 96 of Bucyrus passed away on Sunday April 9, 2017 at the home of his daughter in Swanton, OH. Sy was born April 30, 1920 in Lykens to the late Harvey and Clara (Laipply) Zellner. He was married Sept. 6, 1945 to Flora (Begley) Zellner who preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 1999. He was also preceded in death by brother Verlin Zellner and sister Lois Hardy.
Sy is survived by daughter Pamela (Robert) Shumate of Swanton and son Randall (Debbie) Zellner of Moorestown, NJ; grandchildren Richard (Kristen) Shumate of Whitehouse, OH and Michael Shumate of Columbus, Jeffrey (Lana) Zellner of Bonner, MT, Karen Zellner of Brooklyn NY, and Rebecca (Dan Youngblut) Zellner of Hasbrouk Heights, NJ; great grandchildren Elizabeth Zellner and Audrey and Graham Shumate.
Mr. Zellner was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Lykens H.S. in 1938. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. Sy farmed his entire life and for nearly 40 years worked at the former Landmark. He was a member of Baseline St. Johns United Church of Christ, the Nevada American Legion, and the Farm Bureau.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am in the Baseline St. Johns United Church of Christ with Rev. Louis Dorsch officiating, burial will be in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
