Russell E. Charlton 87 went to be with the Lord on April 5th at Altercare of Bucyrus. He was born in Lewis County Kentucky, May 4th 1936 to the late Ithel Charlton and Inez (Bloomfield) Charlton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother; Ronald Charlton, his son; Larry Charlton, and grandson; Christopher Charlton.
He is survived by his wife; Barbara Charlton, sons; Donald (Kathy) Charlton, Mark Charlton, and daughter; Cindy (Steve) Harter. Sisters; Christine Nickler and Ruth Bloomfield. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He remained in Grassy Creek Kentucky until he moved at the age of 5 to Bucyrus, Ohio. Where he met and married the love of his life, Barbara (Nickler) Charlton on August 20th 1955. They shared 4 children together.
Russell was a welder most of his life but was also a jack of all trades known for witching and drilling wells. He even once built their family home in New Winchester, with the help of his 3 sons. Russell worked for Paper Calmenson from where he retired. After retirement he used his many skills to buy and flip houses.
Many knew him as the “bicycle guy” as he had a hobby of refurbishing bicycles to sell. He enjoyed his later days sitting on the front porch with a beer, listening to the radio. He was a great story teller and to know him was to love him.
He will reside at Oceola cemetery. At his request there will be no service. Memorials may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are in the care of Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home. Moments of remembrance may be left online at www.munzpirnstill.com
