Robert Rinker

December 31, 1969 — April 10, 2014

Biography:  Robert Rinker, 88, of Bucyrus died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon at Bucyrus Community Hospital following a short illness. He was born in Bucyrus on October 11, 1925 to the late Edward and Florence (Bittikofer) Rinker.  On March 2, 1946 he married Donna (Lahman) Rinker who preceded him in death on December 30, 2012.  Also preceding him in death are daughter-in-Law Bonnie Rinker, and son-in-Law James Kisling.

 
Surviving are children Jean (Ron) Ridge of Traverse City, MI.; Jim Rinker of Bucyrus; and Joan Kisling of Columbus; a brother Paul Rinker of Bucyrus, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A lifelong member of the community he graduated from Bucyrus High School Class of 1943, and was a Tool and Die Maker for 44 years at Galion Iron Works, he also farmed.
Robert enlisted in the Army at Fort Hayes in Columbus, and was a member of the 911 Field Division in Livingston, LA. The Division was called the Black Hawks.  Later they were transferred to San Luis Obispo, California. From there he went to France and then to Germany under General Patton. After Germany he served with General McArthur in the Philippines.  During his time in the service he received 2 Bronze Stars. Robert was discharged in 1946 and served 6 years in the Army Reserve.
Robert was a member of the American Legion Post 181, and St Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with Rev. Don Neumann officiating.  Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of Service.
Memorials may be made to the Council on Aging through the Funeral Home and expressions of sympathy may be left at munzpirnstill.com.
