Robert (Bob) Reid Groves, 88 of Bucyrus, passed away at his home, Thursday, April 10, 2025. He was born October 15, 1936, in Orlinda, Tennessee, to the late Thomas Jefferson Groves and Mary Ellen (Reid) Groves. On November 21, 1956, he married Carol Jean (Barton) Groves, who preceded him in death September 12, 2008.
It is not how he passed that he will be remembered, but rather how he lived. Bob had the kindest heart and a laugh that was contagious. He also had a presence that demanded respect from all who were lucky enough to be in his company. He most enjoyed visits with family, whether they stopped by to see him, or if he took his dog, Carl, on a car/scooter ride to see them. Bob has never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand anytime he could. He has brought love and endless laughter to all that knew him. He was an avid teller of jokes and always had one for you if you stopped by. It didn’t matter if you thought it was funny, he would laugh as he got to the punch line. Most importantly, Bob was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him.
Robert graduated from Chatfield High School and lived in Bucyrus most of his life. He was an Industrial Engineer at the Hydromatic Pump Co. in Ashland for many years. He then went on to work the green cone line at Timken in Bucyrus, retiring in 2000. Bob was a well-known automobile mechanic and operated his own garage for many years. He was often referenced as, “the best back yard mechanic/transmission guy around”. He passed on his endless knowledge of mechanics to his sons, son in law, and many friends and acquaintances.
Bob was also preceded in death by sisters, Judy Pash and Mary Keeton. His brother, Carl Groves, and his nephew, Rodney Davidson, whom he helped raise.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jeff (Nancy) Groves of Nevada, Eric Groves of Bucyrus, and Victoria (Gary) Bishop of Bucyrus; grandchildren Curtis (Emily) Groves of Bucyrus, Gail (Anthony) Lucanegro of Ontario, Shustien Rigdon of Bucyrus, Morgan (Chris) Jones of Bucyrus, and Kasondra (Jason Tharp) Bishop of Bucyrus; great grandchildren, Aizlyn, Arissa, Savannah, Maverick, Trevin, Taelix, Audrey, Jack, Ben, Reid, and Aiden; brothers Charles Groves of Bucyrus, Thomas Groves of Marion, and Jerry Groves of Idaho; sisters, Barb Eulett of Wyoming, and Judy Ulrich of Tennessee.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral home. A celebration of life and burial service to follow with Pastor Rich Hurles officiating. Burial will be in Crawford County Memory Gardens. Expressions of sympathy can be left at www.munzpirnstill.com
