Biography: Richard Young, 89, of rural Tiro passed away on Tuesday July 8, 2014 at Heartland of Bucyrus following an extended illness. Richard was born March 23, 1925 in Camp Dix, KY to the late Earl and Nora (Blankenship) Young. He was married to Cinda (Tackett) Young who preceded him in death in 2006. He was also preceded in death by sons Terry and Douglas; and brothers Herbert, Coy, Raymond, Harry, and Clyde Young.
Mr. Young is survived by son Michael and wife Diane of Bucyrus; grandchildren Christine (Young) Stander, Bucyrus; Corie Young of Pottersville, NY; and Heather (Young) McMillen of Mt. Gilead; 6 great grandchildren, Emily and Sarah Smith, Bucyrus; Terry Young of Pottersville, NY; Hannah and MaKayla McMillen of Mt. Gilead; and Madison Hagopian of Mt. Gilead; 1 great great grandson Douglass Delvecchio of Bucyrus; and brother Clifford Young of Bucyrus.
Richard lived most of his life in the Bucyrus area and attended Mt. Zion School. He was a U.S. Army veteran during WWII serving in the Pacific Theatre. Richard received the Bronze Star, The Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon. He was a member of the VFW 1078 and the Bucyrus Moose Lodge. Richard retired from the Bucyrus Blades in 1990.
Graveside Services will be held on Thursday July 10, 2014 at 4:00 pm in Oakland Cemetery, Tiro with Rev. Carl Angel officiating.
