Biography: Ralph W. Sack, 93 of Bucyrus passed away on Saturday December 12, 2015 at Bucyrus Community Hospital following a short hospital stay. Ralph was born June 1, 1922 in Cleveland to the late Elmer and Helen (Timm) Sack. He was married August 17, 1946 to Florence (Gurecki) Sack who preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 1997. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by step mother Grace Sack; infant sister Helen; and sisters Norma Jean Javorich and Joyce Barnard.
Ralph is survived by children Michael of Bucyrus; Marcia (Steve) Hill, Marion; and Mariann (Michael) Zimmerman, Bucyrus; grandchildren Monica (Ken Rittenour) Sack, Bucyrus; Melissa (Justin) Bauer, Bucyrus; Mandy (Jeff Howard) Sack, Bucyrus; Emily Gallagher, Marion; Andy (Tina) Markley, TX; Macy and Megan Zimmerman both of Bucyrus; great grandchildren Bexlee, Atley, Paxen, Paisley, Grady, McKenna, Mason, Tony, and Madison; sisters Judy Parlongo of Conneaut and Kathy Hicks of Florida.
Ralph was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp and while serving in WWII was held as a prisoner of war. He was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant with citations for good conduct in the American theater and Bronze Star. Following his military service, Ralph joined the Ohio Highway Patrol in 1947 and was assigned to the Geneva patrol post, then Painesville, and finally to Bucyrus in 1959. In 1968 he began working for Fairfield Engineering in Marion and retired in 1986. Ralph was the honorary parade marshal for the Bucyrus Memorial Day Parade in 2009.
Ralph was a member of the American Legion Post 181, Amvets Post 27 and the VFW. He was also an inductee into the Crawford County Hall of Fame.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery (Holy Trinity Section). The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
