Biography: Paul G. Gies, 83, formerly of the New Washington and Bucyrus areas, passed away on Friday afternoon at Ruffing Care Center, Bloomville where he had been a resident for the past 8 years. Paul was born Jan. 1, 1931 in Mansfield to the late John F. and Mabel I. (Griffith) Gies.
Paul is survived by children Paul W. Gies of Crestline; Susan (Robert) Dininger of Plymouth; Rebecca (Alan) Dininger of Plymouth; Anna Marie Heckert of Bucyrus; and John E. (April) Gies of Plymouth; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother David (Linda) Gies of Bucyrus; sisters Anna Mae Hall of Cleveland and Barbara Kilgore of MI. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son Roger; brothers Donald, George, and Richard; and sister Mary Alice Gies.
Paul worked at PPG in Crestline for several years and was a U.S. Navy Veteran during the Korean War. He was a Life Member of the DAV and the VFW.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday Oct. 1, 2014 in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service.
