Biography: Orval L. Burky, 78, of Bucyrus passed away on Monday April 14, 2014 in the Bucyrus Community Hospital, his death was unexpected. Orval was born August 21, 1935 in Tiro to the late Laylin and Eva (Feik) Burky. He was first married to Joan R. Johnson Aug. 5, 1961 and she preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 1998. On August 28, 2004 he married Wilma (Daiber) Poorman who survives. In addition to his wife Joan, he was preceded in death by one brother Walter.
Orval is also survived by daughter Debbie (Randy) Haldeman, Bucyrus; step son Mark (Nicole) Poorman, South Euclid; step daughter Jolene (Ben) Kelbley of Tiffin; grandchildren Gary (Bibi) Haldeman, S. Carolina; Amanda (Frank Saucedo), Toledo; Tyler (Ellen Dotson), Toledo; step granddaughter Ashley Rose; and one great granddaughter Lainey; also surviving are siblings Ben (Betty) Burky of Galion; Naomi (Wendell) Amstutz of Shelby; Eve (Dan) Reiff, Marion; Sharon (Darrell) Carman, Bucyrus; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Orval was retired from Timken and for many years owned and operated Burky Excavating. He lived his entire life in this area and was a graduate of Tiro High School following which he served in the U.S. Marines. Orval enjoyed driving tractor during the fall harvest and also was very proud that he beat Leukemia.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with Gene Luidhardt S.A.M. officiating, burial will follow in Sixteen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The family suggests memorials be made to the Holmes Twp.
