Biography: Michael L. “Spearsy” Spears, 54 of Bucyrus passed away Tuesday January 5, 2016 at the Elmwood Center in Green Springs, OH following a nearly 4 year illness. Mike was born Oct. 28, 1961 in Bucyrus to Ray Spears and Sonja (Wilson) Eaton, they both survive. He was married March 13, 2012 to Christine (Bursby) Spears.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mike is survived by daughter Laci (Matt) Balster; step-daughter Nicole (Matt) Buemi; step-son Eric (Natalie) Butterman; siblings, Rosie (Gary) Conley, Greg Spears, Mark Eaton, Amy (Terry) Zornes, Teresa Hensley, and Renae Clinard; mother-in-law and her husband Veronica and Bill O’Rourke; grandchildren Maxton and Colton Balster, Morgan Buemi, and Drew, Charli and Willa Butterman; sister and brother-in-law Kim and Roy Addison and children; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by father-in-law Bill Bursby; step-father Hartzell Eaton; brother Tommy Eaton; step-mother Shirley Spears; and sister-in-law Carolyn Spears.
Mike lived his entire life in Bucyrus and graduated from Bucyrus High School. He had a desire to serve our Veterans. Mike was a member of SAL 181 as well as Sons of Amvets Post #27. He held the office of Commander for 4 terms as well as other offices over the past 20 years. Mike was able to make a trip to Washington D.C. with some veterans and loved hearing their stories.
Mike loved bowling which he started in High School and won the Bill Rahm Invitational in 2001. Mike also loved golfing but was still working on that game a lot.
Mike retired from Vulcan Products in 2012 after being diagnosed with ALS. Although he enjoyed playing golf and poker, he enjoyed most of all spending time with his grandkids.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brokensword Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Friday.
