Biography: Mary Kocher, 93, of Bucyrus passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday May 27, 2014. Mary was born in Bucyrus Ohio to Ida Brause Pettit and Cannes Pettit on April 15, 1921. Mary was the second of six children. She married Earl Everett Kocher on October 8, 1943 who survives. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers Bob and Cliff as well as three grandchildren.
Together, Mary and Earl had two children, son Allen and his wife Anna, Greenville, OH and daughter Brenda and her husband David Young of Lykens, five Grand Children : Mike Kocher, Kevin Kocher, Marc Young, Brent Young, and Shaun Young and nine Great Grand Children: Maisie, Alyssa, Andrew, Ian , Elijah, Samuel, Brayden and Alivia and Great Great Grand Daughter Aubrie. Her sister Jean (Pettit) Rowell of Springfield, MO and her brother Marion (Pic) Pettit of Lancaster MA;
She graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1940 and following graduation attended Marion Business College.
She managed Swan Rubber Credit Union for 24 years. Over the years, she also worked at Bucyrus Telegraph Forum, Smith Incubator, Camp Millard, Marion Engineer Depot, and Camp Wheeler in Macon, Ga.
In the Community she was a past Girl Scout Troup Leader, a member of Adult Girl Scouts, past 4-H leader, a past member of Modern Extension Homemakers.
Mary belonged to the Baha’I Faith. She served as the Treasurer and Correspondent for the Bucyrus Baha’i Group.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00-7:00 pm. Memorials may be made to Home Care Matters and expressions of sympathy may be left at munzpirnstill.com
