Marilyn Elaine Shumaker

Marilyn Elaine Shumaker, 91, of Bucyrus, went home to be with the Lord, December 28, 2024 after a brief illness. She was born April 14, 1933 in Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio, to the late John W. and Marie (Caskey) Kurtz. A graduate of Lykens HS, she was married to Edwin R. Shumaker on August 12, 1951. Marilyn liked to say that 1951 was a big year for her: she graduated, married, and got her first job, all in 1951. Other than a short stint with her new husband while he finished his enlistment with the US Navy, where Marilyn worked on base, she spent her entire life in Crawford County. Upon return, they embarked upon a life of farming. Their life together was cut short in 1994 when Edwin lost his battle with cancer.

Marilyn is survived by her son Larry (Mary) Shumaker of Canal Winchester, grandchildren Jodie (Jason) Robinson of Pickerington and John (Courtney) Shumaker of Akron, and great-grandsons, Joel and Jonas Robinson. In addition to her parents and husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Beth Shumaker, and siblings Sam (Beverlee) and Ron (Eileen) Kurtz. 

Per her own request, there will be no funeral service or public calling hours. Graveside services for the immediate family will be held at Oakwood Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Embassy of Pickerington and Suncrest Hospice for their dedication and care as they provided physical comfort during Marilyn’s final days. We would also like to thank Pastor Mike Greenler for his spiritual guidance as he ministered to us during this difficult time.
