Biography: Maebelle Garrett, 95, of Bucyrus passed away on Tuesday May 13, 2014 at Altercare of Bucyrus following a two year illness. Maebelle was born June 27, 1918 in Franklin, KY to the late Sylvana C. “Babe” and Ada Dean (Suttle ) Carter. She was married Aug. 24, 1940 to Eugene L. Garrett in Franklin KY., he preceded her in death on March 29, 1990. She was also preceded in death by sisters Verdie Casteel and Virginia Jones; brother Ewing Clayton Carter; and step grandson Richard Lewis.
Maebelle is survived by children; Virginia “Ginny” (Gene) Belcher of Bucyrus; Allen (Patsy) Garrett of Sandusky; grandchildren Kyle (Pam) Belcher, TX; Keith and Kenneth Belcher both of Bucyrus; Teri (Jim) Irvine, Attica; Trina (Ron) Brauer, Sandusky; Tana (Jim) Christiansen, Norwalk; step grandchild Amy (David) Tarring, Castalia; 19 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; 3 nephews Bobby (Helen) Carter, Bucyrus; Charles Casteel, Bowling Green, KY; and Truman (Peggy) Casteel of Indianapolis, IN.; Danny (Linda) Jones, N. Robinson; Linda (Ray) Clayton, Bucyrus; and Betty Carter of Arkansas.
Maebelle moved to Bucyrus in 1945 and over the years had worked at Tri City Drive Inn, Checkmate Boats, and for over 25 years at Newberry’s. She was active as a volunteer for the Red Cross, Election Board, and as a Gray Lady at Bucyrus Comm. Hospital. Maebelle was a member of the former First Christian Church.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 12 noon in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with Rev. Bradley Smith officiating, burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of services. Memorials may be given to Alzheimer’s Foundation and expressions of sympathy can be made at munzpirnstill.com
