Biography: Mabel Vera (Palmer) Blackburn of Bucyrus died on Monday morning, April 6, 2015 at Mifflin Care Center, Mansfield. She was 91 years old.
She was born on January 27, 1924 to Earl and Sarah (Jones) Palmer in Powhatan Point, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver "Bub" Ludlow Blackburn whom she married on November 2, 1946 in Bucyrus, and her son, Jack Blackburn who passed away in 2007. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters: Melvin, Carl, Leonard, Archie and Lewis Blackburn, and Neva Keltner, Glenna Dutcher, Janiv Singledecker, and Leona Brunner.
Mabel is survived by her son, Jerry Blackburn and his wife, Susie of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Traci (Blackburn) Blido of Forest, VA, Travis (Flower) Blackburn of Colorado Springs, CO, and William Aaron (Rizza) Blackburn of Atlanta, GA. Other survivors include her seven great grandchildren, Hannah, Caleb, Nathan, Briana, Katie, Oliver, and Liam.
Mabel worked at G.E. and Swan in her younger years and was a homemaker for her family. She was a very good cook and housekeeper. Mabel liked playing bingo and listening to her son and husband play music.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 pm. Memorials may be made to Gifts for Yanks and expressions of sympathy can be left at munzpirnstill.com.
