Lon Allan McKeehen, 63, Bucyrus, passed on the evening of December 6th, following complications with the rare disease, amyloidosis. A friendly man who always had a smile to share, Lon was a dedicated caregiver and family man.
Lon was born on June 25, 1960, to Virginia (Rossman) McKeehen and Lowell McKeehen; he has one younger brother, Darrin, born in 1965. Lon attended Bucyrus City Schools before meeting his wife Allison while working together at Bucyrus Community Hospital. They wed in 1983 and have two daughters together, Shannon and Erica McKeehen.
Lon excelled in sales positions for over twenty years. He prided himself on being a people person who genuinely cared about others. He also loved animals of all kinds and preferred spending time outdoors, caring for his yard and going for swims in the summertime. Over the years, customers and friends described Lon as a “gentle giant” --he loved helping people and making others laugh.
Throughout his life, Lon collected many records, CDs, music magazines, and other cultural media; he was especially knowledgeable about rock and roll artists of the 1960’s to present day. His daughters started attending rock concerts with him at a young age. Lon was very supportive and proud of his daughters, who were the apple of his eye.
When he wasn't listening to music, he spent quality time with his wife watching movies, history documentaries, and his favorite football team, the Los Angeles Rams, whom he had followed since childhood.
Lon is survived by his wife Allison McKeehen (Himler, Bucyrus, OH); brother Darrin (Jacksonville, FL); older daughter Shannon (Fremont, OH), her husband Michael Ross (Fremont, OH); and younger daughter Erica (Chicago, IL); in addition to many cousins, nieces, and nephews residing around the country. He is preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Lowell, whom he cared for daily until their passing; his father-in-law, John Himler; and his cousins, Larry Rossman, Dean Rossman, Gail Kleer, and David Kincaid.
Funeral arrangements will be provided by Munz-Pirnstill of Bucyrus, with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery, Bucyrus, on Saturday, December 16th at 11:00am. Following the graveside service, an informal celebration-of-life gathering will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church for family and friends. All who knew and loved Lon are welcome to attend.
The McKeehen family would like to thank the nurses at Avita Bucyrus Community Hospital for going above and beyond to care for Lon. They would also like to thank Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and the various teams who researched Lon’s case in addition to providing him with exceptional care.
