Leona Ruth Eichelberger. 91, of Bucyrus, Ohio, passed away Friday, March 24, 2023, at Promedica in Bucyrus.
Leona was born on August 11, 1931, near Chatfield, Ohio, at the Fauser home place to Reuben C. and Marie S. (Fauser) Kalb. They preceded her in death. Leona married Robert B. Eichelberger in 1958. They had one daughter, Kathleen. During the twelve years of their marriage, she was stepmother to Diane Grady (deceased), Larry Eichelberger, and Marcia Baker.
Leona is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and John Dishon; and two grandchildren and their families: Michael and Lori Dishon, Cooper, Addison, and Ellie; Lydia and Scott McKnight, Esther, Magdalene, Selah Ruth, and Gideon.
Leona was the oldest of four children. Her two sisters and their husbands,Martha and Homer Ulmer, and Miriam and David Cooper all preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Cindy Kalb of Nashport, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Holmes-Liberty High School in 1949. Until her marriage, she worked at Swan Rubber followed by Timken Roller Bearing. When she became a single mom, she began working at Bucyrus Community Hospital in the dietary department. She retired from there after twenty-five years.
Leona grew up attending Chatfield Evangelical Pietist Church. She later attended Wayside Chapel for 25 years. When her elderly mother was no longer able to drive to church, she became her chauffeur and returned to the Pietist Church. As a young girl, Leona asked Jesus to be her Lord and Savior and take away her sins. Because of that decision, we are confident that she is with her Savior now! Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints, Psalm 116:15.
Calling hours will be at Munz Pirnstill Funeral Home, Bucyrus, on Tuesday, March 28, from 2-4 with the funeral immediately following. Burial will be in Lust Cemetery near Chatfield, Ohio.
