John Jerome Gervais

Biography:  John Jerome Gervais, 86, of Bucyrus, passed away on March 6, 2014 at Altercare Of Bucyrus.  He was born on May 6, 1927 in Limestone, Maine to the late George and Olympe (Rioux) Gervais.  John was married on August 5, 1952 to Carmen (Lee) who survives.  He was preceded in death by one sister Georgia Berube of Painesville, Ohio and one brother, Paul Gervais of Maine.
John is also survived by three children Richard (Patti) Gervais of Galion, Lee Gervais (Gene Stemp) of Seattle, WA, and Joan (Keith) Attwood of Traverse City, MI; five grandchildren Bryan (Ashley) Gervais, Lindsay (Nick) Arndt, Sarah (Lucas) Vanderkleed, Aimee Gervais, Leslie (Ryan) Gusching; five great grandchildren Evan and Connor Gusching, Lily and Tyler Arndt and Amos Vanderkleed, with two more on the way; one sister Ada Markley of Bucyrus and one brother Rainald Gervais of Limestone, ME.
John served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1952.  He was stationed on the island of Guam as part of the Asiatic Pacific Campaign.  He worked for the Timken Company after moving to Bucyrus in 1952.  He went on disability retirement in 1976 and had battled a rare degenerative neurological disease since then.
John’s greatest  joy in life was family.  He enjoyed watching the activities of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Earlier in life he enjoyed traveling to New England and New Brunswick, Canada to visit extended family and friends.  He loved collecting and organizing slides, photos and videos of his loved ones.  Other hobbies over the years included coin collecting, completing jigsaw puzzles, gardening and mechanical tinkering.  He served as a Past Grand Knight of the Holy Trinity Knights of Columbus and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.  John was known by many as a kind-hearted, friendly man who enjoyed visits and conversation.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday at 2:00 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father John Miller as Celebrant, burial will follow in the Catholic Section of Oakwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Sunday from 3-6 pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the local Red Cross or Holy Trinity Church.  Prayer Services will be held on Sunday at 5:45 pm.  Expressions of sympathy can be left at munzpirnstill.com
