Biography: Joan S. Truka, 94 of Bucyrus passed away on Sunday February 3, 2019 at home. Joan was born June 8, 1924 in Bucyrus to the late Victor and Josephine (Bruhen) Shumaker. She was married February 3, 1944 to David J. Truka who preceded her in death on April 7, 2010. She was also preceded in death by son Mark; brother Edwin; and daughter in law Margo Truka.
Joan is survived by sons Neil D. Truka of San Juan Capistrano, CA and Bruce D. Truka of Bucyrus; Daughter in law Phyllis Truka of Stockbridge, GA; and grandchildren Lauren (Peyton) Foshee and Kristin (Chris) Doss.
Joan lived her entire life in Bucyrus and graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1942. She was involved with multiple civic and Church related organizations; including Cub Scouts, 4H groups and Crawford County Home-Makers. Joan was instrumental with the organization and operation of then newly built Holy Trinity School cafeteria. In addition she owned and operated The Furniture House in Bucyrus for 35 years and in evenings did payroll for Swan Rubber Company. As an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church she supplied the altar flowers and anonymously provided furnishings for the Priest’s rectory and convent for the Nuns.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Paul Fahrbach as Celebrant, burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 7:45 pm. The family suggests memorials be made to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church building fund and expressions of sympathy can be left at www.munzpirnstill.com
