Biography: Joan H. Downend, 81 of Bucyrus passed away on Tuesday July 19, 2016 at Bucyrus Community Hospital following a brief illness related to liver disease. Joan was born Sept. 25, 1934 in Bucyrus to the late Delbert Kirk and Genevieve (Batton) Easterday. She was preceded in death by husbands George Robert Quinn and Paul Downend; daughter Kathleen and sister Lavonne Daine.
Joan is survived by children Mark (Chris) Quinn, Bucyrus; Matthew (Linda) Quinn, Bellville; and Mary Quinn of Bucyrus; grandchildren Adam, Kathleen, Gabrielle, and Brenna; and one sister Betty (Alton) Groves, Bucyrus.
Joan graduated from Madison H.S. in Cleveland in 1952 following which she worked as a waitress. After moving back to Bucyrus, Joan worked at Timken, Cobey Manufacturing, Bucyrus Blades, and the Dept. of Transportation prior to marrying Paul Downend. She was active as a Cub Scout Leader, coached Little League, was PTA President at Lincoln Elementary School, Member of the Eastern Star, Garden Club, and Bucyrus United Methodist Church.
Joan enjoyed making caramel apples for football games for many years, making anatomical dolls for the BPD for abused children, she built and repaired houses, refinished furniture, traveling with her late husband, the lake house, making quilts, and watching westerns. Most of all she enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and passing out hugs to everyone she met.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday July 26, 2016 at 6:00 pm in the Bucyrus United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Corwin officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until the time of the service.
