Biography: James D. Haffa, 78 of Bucyrus passed away on Monday, February 03, 2014 in Galion Community Hospital, his death was unexpected. He was born on September 3, 1935 in Galion, Ohio to the late Dale and Mary (Shank) Haffa Balyeat. On February 25, 1955 he married Nancy (Steele) Haffa who preceded him in death on January 25, 2001. Also preceding him is his sister, Donna Baird and half-brother Dennis Balyeat.
He is survived by a longtime special friend and companion, Sharon Studer. Also surviving are his children, Alan (Shirley) Haffa of Nevada, Kathy (Gary) Knotts of Grand Prairie, Texas, Dan (Cheryl) Haffa of Bucyrus, Becky (Rob) Cooley of Bucyrus, and Kelly (Mike) Sturtz of Bucyrus; 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, his brother, Richard (Marian) Haffa of Michigan, and his sister, Betty Baird of Lexington, Ohio.
He attended school in Sulphur Springs, Retiring from Ryder Heil Bronze after 23 years and worked at the Cobey Company. He was a member of the Moose, serving as the past Governor twice, served on the Moose Ritual Team, and many other committees. He was also a member of the VFW Post 1078, AMVETS, and the American Legion Post 181. He enjoyed being outdoors, spending time with his family, grand kids, working on cars, and helping others around him.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7 PM in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home where a Ritual Service will be held at 7 pm followed by Funeral Services with Linda Heinlen officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans through the funeral home.
