Iris Jean Ballantyne, 88 of Bucyrus died unexpectedly on September 5, 2022. Iris was born on September 24, 1933 in Marion, Ohio.
She graduated from Harding High School in 1951 and attended a typing class at a local business college to learn secretarial work. Iris worked for the Ohio Associated Telephone Company for 8 years (1953-1961). She then worked for the Fulfillment Corporation, later known as Kable Fulfillment from 1961-1999 when she retired in order to take care of her mother. She grew up in Marion, and moved with her family to the farm her uncle Carl Speidel purchased south of Bucyrus in 1956 and lived on the farm for her remaining years. Iris cherished her family, and dedicated herself to looking after everyone. She never missed a birthday or anniversary.
Iris had a special place in her heart for all animals, especially dogs. Iris is preceded in death by her father Ellwood Homer Ballantyne, her mother Flora Melinda Speidel Ballantyne, her brother Jack Ballantyne, and sister-in-law Shielda Ballantyne. Iris is survived by her nephew Jeff (Dawn) Ballantyne of Edison, OH, and niece Amy (Troy) Darcy of Naperville, IL., great-niece Hannah Darcy and great-nephew Evan Darcy. A private graveside service will be held in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Iris' memory to the Crawford County Humane Society.
