Biography: Helen Virginia Rittenour, 91, of Bucyrus passed away on Wednesday at Magnolia Terrace where she had been a resident for the past year. Helen was born March 16 1921 in Whetstone Twp., Crawford Co. to the late George Alexander Kocher and Clara Yost Kocher. Helen was the last of nine siblings. She was married Christmas Day 1941 to Zearl Raymond “Zeke” Rittenour who preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1982. Helen was also preceded in death by son in law Rikky L. Ackerman in 1982.
Helen is survived by daughter Patricia Ann Ackerman Ickes; granddaughter Candi Sue Cobb; great granddaughter Cassandra Nicole Cobb all of Galion, as well as nieces and nephews.
Helen attended Whetstone High School where she played basketball in 1937-1938 and the year she graduated 1939. She was employed at the Timken Co. and retired there in 1978. Helen also was a nana and caregiver for numerous children over a number of years. She was a lifelong member of Epworth United Methodist Church where she was a member of the “Chancel Choir”, the W.S.C.S. Ladies of the Church and also of the Mary Martha S.S. Class.
Helen was a lover of life and loved her organ-keyboard. She enjoyed gospel and country music, O.S.U. and Cavaliers Basketball, as well as loving her immediate family. Other interests of Helen’s were scrapbooking, flowers and being a Women of Faith.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with Rev. Don Kraps officiating, burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and expressions of sympathy can be left at munzpirnstill.com. The family suggests memorials be made to Home Care Matters Hospice through the funeral home.
