Helen Hannah Yaussy

December 31, 1969 — July 6, 2014

Biography:  Helen Hannah Yaussy Shock, 84, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away on July 4, 2014. Though “absent from the body,” she is now “present with the Lord.” She was born on November 22, 1929, to Ralph and Marietta Roop Yaussy in their home at 1818 Temple Road in Crawford County.

Graduating from Holmes-Liberty School in 1947, she moved with her family to Marion County, residing on a farm on Marseilles Galion Rd E. After attending nursing school for a year in Cincinnati, OH, she returned to Marion and later began working for a dentist, Dr. A. J. Wagner, in 1952, a position she faithfully filled for 24 years.

After Dr. Wagner’s retirement in 1976, she accepted a job at MedCenter Hospital working as a unit secretary, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. She retired in 1997 and a few years later moved to Chattanooga, TN, to be closer to her daughter and her daughter’s family.

While in Marion, she was an active member of Smeltzer Road Alliance Church, now Cornerstone Alliance. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, listening to sermons, singing hymns,  writing letters, and working on word puzzles. She is remembered for her readiness to tease, her quick wit, her wonderful smile, her care for her family and friends, and, most of all, her commitment to her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Helen is survived by two children: Mary Ellen Mayberry (Tom), Chattanooga, TN, and David Earl (Cindy) Shock, Loudonville, OH, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A son, Charles Steven, and four brothers preceded her in death.

Services will be held at 11:00 Wednesday at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus, OH. Mike Weaver, pastor of Little Flock Fellowship Church of Ashland, OH, will be officiating.
