George W. Atkinson

Biography:  George W. Atkinson, 81, of Bucyrus passed away at 2:25 am Tuesday in Heartland of Bucyrus following a brief illness.  George was born May 3, 1931 in Lancaster, OH to the late George S. Atkinson and Beatrice V. (Everly) Atkinson Greer.  He was married April 21, 1957 to Ruth M. (Purtee) Atkinson who preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 2002.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brother Robert.
 

 

 

George is survived by children Connie (Robert) Sherer, Grove City; Aaron (Linda) Atkinson, Bucyrus; Tim Atkinson, Bucyrus; grandchildren Bart Sherer, Grove City; Sarah (Adam) Hook, Orient; Stephanie Atkinson of Columbus; and Seth, Justin, and Nathan Atkinson all of Bucyrus; great granddaughter Sophia; brother Jim (Dixie) Atkinson, Marion; and sister Barbara Patrick, Marion; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

 

 

He was retired from G.E. in Bucyrus in 1992 after working 36 years.  George graduated from Marion Harding Vocational School in 1950 and was a Navy Veteran during the Korean War.  He enjoyed woodworking and helping neighbors with repairs.

 

 

Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with Gene Luidhardt, S.A.M. officiating, burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens.  Military Honors will be provided by the Am. Legion Post 181.  The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7 pm and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Am.
