Biography: Gene C. Sorg, 83, of Bucyrus passed away on Monday Feb. 3, 2014 at Bucyrus Community Hospital. Gene was born March 22, 1930 in Lykens, OH to the late Jesse C. Sorg Sr. and Eulalia B. (Close) Sorg. He was married May 7, 1993 to Tomilene Thompson Sorg who preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 2013. He was also preceded in death by grandson Chad Montgomery and great grandson Colton Sorg, sisters Helen L. Chafee and Marjorie Zimmerman as well as brother in law Ed Chafee.
Gene is survived by children Pamela Sorg of Goodyear AZ; Linda (Mark) Nicoson of Des Moines, IA; Michael (Pam) Sorg of Carey, OH; Jeffrey (Katina) Sorg of Sidney, OH; Randy (Sherri) Sorg of Upper Sandusky; 22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, brothers Jesse C. Sorg Jr. of Indiana and Richard (Judy) Close of Bucyrus; sisters Mary Renfro of St. Mary’s and Sherrie (Bert) Kline of Bucyrus, and his pet dog Abby
Gene retired from Timken in 1985. He was a Navy Veteran during the WWII era. He served on the USS Atlanta and was awarded the American Theatre Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, China Service Medal and the Japanese Occupation. He was a member of the American Legion Post 181 and formerly the Bucyrus Moose Lodge and Elks. Gene enjoyed watching Westerns, reading, fishing, and traveling to the Amish Country.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Trester officiating, burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bloomville. The family will receive friends on Sunday at the funeral home from 1-3 and 5-7 pm. Memorials may be given to Home Care Matters or the Cr. Co.
