Gene Blankenship

Biography:  Gene Blankenship, 67 of Bucyrus passed early Sunday at Bucyrus Community Hospital of an apparent heart attack, his death was unexpected.  Gene was born Nov. 19, 1948 in Stopover KY to the late Eugene Blankenship and Polly (Mullins) Blankenship.  He was married 47 years ago to Penny (Rex) Blankenship who survives.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter April Perdue.
Gene is also survived by daughter Jeannie Blankenship of Bucyrus; son Jerry (Jo) Israel of Bucyrus; grandchildren Dustine (Ryan) Holup, Iowa; Michael Blankenship, Bucyrus; Wesley Perdue, Bucyrus; Karli Frizzell, Bucyrus; Kendra Bair, Bucyrus; Mathew Israel, Bucyrus; step grandchildren Sierra Newmeyer, Tyler Furniss, Justin and Adam Perdue; great grandchildren Clark, Harvey, and Darla Holup, Michael Blankenship Jr, Mikayla Bair; brother Clee (Ernestine) Blankenship, KY; sisters Brenda and Rachel Benge of NC; half brother Adam Blankenship, KY; step mother Maggie of WV; mother in law Betty Rex of Sulphur Springs; son in law Duane Perdue of Bucyrus; and former sister in law Marcia Metzger of Bucyrus; nephews and nieces Steven, Shane, Winnie, Tigger, Austin, and Matthew.
Gene retired from Bucyrus Blades 10 years ago and formerly had worked at Komatsu Dresser in Galion and Bucyrus for 27 years.  He also was the owner of the Fantasy Corner for 20 years and Good Eats for 7 years.  Gene lived most of his life in Bucyrus and enjoyed his Classic Cars and going to car shows, playing shuffleboard and pool, riding his motorcycle, and being around people.
The family will receive friends at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Saturday from 2-4 pm and memorials in Gene’s memory may be given to the donor’s choice.  The family invites everyone to Celebrate Gene’s Life and have a time of fellowship from 4:00 until 9:00 pm Saturday at Aumiller Park.  Expressions of sympathy can be left at munzpirnstill.com.
