Biography: Elwood Butler, 83 of Bucyrus went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2016 at home. He had been ill for the past three weeks. Elwood was born April 8, 1933 in Fitch, KY to the late David and Daisy (Bloomfield) Butler. He was married January 30, 1954 to Bessie (Thomas) Butler who survives, they were married 62 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son Charles Edward Butler, grandson Matthew Allan Bloomfield, 3 brothers Glenwood, Moses, and James, as well as three sisters Pauline Liles, Louise Wilburn, and Mae Butler.
In addition to his wife, Elwood is survived by son Virgil (Ruth) Butler, Bucyrus; daughters Rita (Dick) Middleton Jr. of Bucyrus and Anita (Harold) Bloomfield of Nevada; 7 grandchildren, Trina (Jim) Collene, Kristy (Shawn) West, Jonathan (Loretta Slone) Butler, Mike (Jennifer) Middleton, Mark (Jeanette) Middleton, Shawn (Amy) Bloomfield, Jeremy Bloomfield; 23 great grandchildren; brothers Chester Butler of Bucyrus and Walter (Julie) Butler of Camp Dix, KY; sisters Celia Armstrong, Ada Griffitt both of Vanceburg, KY; Janet Reed, Kingman, AZ; and Nancy (Charles) Rickett of Lucasville,OH.
Elwood retired from Glen Gery Brick Company in 2000. He was a member of Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm in the Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Lyle Arnett, Rev. Lewis Copley, and Rev. Chris Stewart officiating, burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-8 pm and on Friday at the church from 11:00 am until the time of service.
