Biography: Elijah Gilliam Sr., 72, of Bucyrus passed away on Thursday at home, his death was unexpected. Elijah was born March 28, 1941 in Lewis Co. KY to the late Estil and Lucille (Smith) Gilliam. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife Jewell Mae Thoroughman.
Elijah is survived by his longtime companion Carol Walker; children Elisha (Jackson Thoroughman) Gilliam, Maysville, KY; Marylyn (William) Witten, Garrison, KY; Geraldine (Lonnie) Miller, Bucyrus; Karen (Bernie) Dressback, Degraff, OH; Terry (Georgeann) Gilliam, Bucyrus; and Elijah Gilliam Jr and wife Karen; 28 grandchildren; 22 Great Grandchildren; brothers James (Gelinda) Gilliam and LeVangle (Roberta) Gilliam both of Vanceburg; sisters Linda Hobbs, Vanceburg; Alene Teeters, Mansfield; Rachel Clemans, Garrison KY; Olive Blivins, Vanceburg; and Maxine Horsley, Olive Hill, KY; as well as Carol’s children, Marcia Robinson, Findlay; Timothy Cooley, Bucyrus; Angela Herod, Bucyrus; Clyde Cooley, Findlay; Georgeann (Terry) Gilliam, Bucyrus; and Lisa Hamm, Bucyrus.
Elijah was retired from Asplund and formerly had worked at Tansco and National Lime and Stone. He attended Full Gospel Lighthouse Church and loved fishing, camping, and gardening.
Funeral Services will be held at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, Bucyrus on Sunday at 6:00 pm and the family will receive friends from 4 pm until the time of service. Additional calling hours will be on Tuesday at the Dickerson F.H. in Vanceburg from 11:00 until 1:00 with services at 1:00 pm.
