Biography: Edmund R. Dougherty, 86, of 500 Wedgewood Ct. Apt. 130, Bucyrus, passed away at 9:58 pm Thursday June 6, 2013 in Bucyrus Community Hospital following a brief illness. Ed was born Aug. 22, 1926 in Reading, PA to the late Edmund J. Dougherty Sr. and Bertha (Helfrich) Dougherty. He was married in April of 1946 to his High School sweetheart Gloria (Selby) Dougherty who survives in Bucyrus.
Ed is also survived by daughters Kathy (Mike) Rank, Tiro; Deb (Bill) Metzger, Bucyrus; granddaughter Janelle Hubble, Zanesville; and great granddaughter Olivia Hubble. He was preceded in death by one brother Michael.
Ed retired in 1989 as purchasing agent at Perfection Cobey in Galion. He lived most of his life in Galion and following retirement moved to Florida for several years and back to Bucyrus four years ago. He was a graduate of Galion High School in 1944 and Veteran of WWII serving in the Navy. Ed was present at the Japanese surrender. He was a longtime member of the Galion Country Club, was an avid golfer, a member of the Galion Elks Club and enjoyed playing cards.
