Biography: Dorothy J. Miller, 67, of Chatfield Twp. passed away suddenly Friday near her home when she was struck by a truck while bicycling. Dorothy was born June 20, 1947 in Chatfield Twp., Crawford Co. to the late William C. and Marie E. (Strohm) Schanzenbach. She was married September 14, 1968 to Thomas H. Miller who survives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Margie Reed.
Dorothy is also survived by daughters Jennifer (Steve) Hainen of Columbus; Heather (Erik) Mackling of Columbus; grandchildren Madeline and Nicholas Hainen; and Daniel and Elizabeth Mackling; sisters Ruth (Richard) Kagy of Bloomville and Wilma (James) Baum of Delaware; as well as several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Dorothy graduated from Buckeye Central High School in 1965 and furthered her education at the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, graduating as a registered nurse in 1968. She served as an RN in Cleveland, Detroit, Columbus, Goshen, IN, and locally. Dorothy was the co-founder of Gus & Maggie's Restaurant in Chatfield with her husband Tom and for 22 years was owner-operator of the business. Following retirement, Dorothy volunteered at Buckeye Central Schools in the Reading Enrichment Program for elementary students. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, traveling out West, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Dorothy was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. John's Lutheran Church, New Washington. She was currently an associate member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sulphur Springs.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ridgeton Rd. with Rev. Hans Scherner officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm in the Lutheran Cemetery on Pearl Rd. in Cleveland. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 - 3:00 pm and 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus.
