Biography: Donald W. Knappenberger, 90 of rural Bucyrus passed away on Monday October 29, 2018 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus. His death was unexpected as a result of complications from a fall. Donald was born March 18, 1928 in Liberty Twp., Crawford Co. to the late Walter and Alma A. (Cover) Knappenberger. He was married Feb. 14, 1981 to Ruth (Geiger) Knappenberger who survives. He was preceded in death by his former wife Clarice (Forney) Knappenberger.
Donald is also survived by children Jim (Terri) Knappenberger of Cincinnati, OH; and Jan Yorgen of the Pittsburgh PA area; step children Nancy (Brad) Stuckman, Sandy (Randy) Armstrong, and Jackie (Tim) Larue all of Bucyrus; grandchildren Eric (Fiance’ Elizabeth Pettigrew), Anna and Sarah Knappenberger, Reed Chamberlin, Ryan Yorgen; step grandchildren Lindsey Mowery, Nick and Matt Stuckman, Kelly (Todd) Cole, Cory (Natalie) LaRue, Ryan (Joleen) Armstrong; 7 step great grandchildren; sister Carol Moran; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Donald graduated from Sulphur Springs H.S. in 1946 where he prided himself in basketball. He was a lifelong member of Scioto United Methodist Church and was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Donald was a member of the American Legion Post 181, VFW Post 1078, and the Bucyrus Moose Lodge #669.
Donald served several years as a Liberty Twp. trustee and was a loyal fan of the Colonel Crawford Eagles, traveling for many years to games with Ruth. For several years he owned horses which he loved to care for. He retired from the Timken Company in 1982 and continued to work with his bulldozer clearing ground and doing farming.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 in the Scioto United Methodist Church with Pastor Dennis Delong officiating, burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
