Biography: Donald Eugene Zimmerman, 88, of Satellite Beach, FL, born in Bucyrus, OH March 19, 1930 and died Dec 6, 2018. As a youth growing up in Ohio and the only child, he was a gifted pianist.
Surrounded by cousins along with other young men, he spent many fun evenings playing softball for Epworth United Methodist Church on the Bucyrus Church League. Don was an outstanding pitcher to a 2nd cousin, retired Methodist Minister, Rev. Richard Yaussy.
He moved from Ohio to Florida in 1970. Don was proud OHIO State Buckeye Graduate and a lifelong Ohio State Fan, GO BUCKS!
A veteran and Officer of the United State Air Force, he honorably served for 25 years, retiring in 2001. During his Air Force career, Donald served as Contracting Officer at various Air Force locations including Patrick AFB, Contracts Manager for RCA Missile Test Project and Department of Energy. He was the Contract Administrator on various U.S. Stations in Jacksonville Navel Station, Pensacola Navel Station, Utah, New Mexico, Fort Gordon, Georgia, U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command,Diego Garcia and more. His career was distinguished by various medals of honor and presidential citations.
He is predeceased by his parents Alfred Clyde Zimmerman and Lillian Rebecca Yausey, and sons Michael and Jeffrey Zimmerman.
He is survived by his wife Regina Ferrer Zimmerman of Satellite Beach, FL; and his daughter Kathy Zimmerman Green and son-in-law Joe Green of Melbourne, FL.
Don was a 33 degree Orlando Scottish Rite, Mason, and a Missile Space and Range Pioneers, Patrick AFB Lifetime Certified Professional Contracts Manager (LCPCM). He was a dedicated member of Satellite Beach United Methodist Church and a long time officer of FAABCO and a member of SFACEF.
Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 1001 S. Hickory Street in Melbourne will hold a viewing from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018.
Following the viewing a church service will be at 1:00 p.m. at Satellite Beach United Methodist Church, 450 Lee Ave in Satellite Beach. PAFB Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
Graveside Services will be conducted in Bucyrus, Ohio where he will be laid to rest with full military honors on Monday December 17 @ 2:00 pm
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor to be made to Satellite Beach United Methodist Church, 450 Lee Ave, Satellite Beach 32937.
