Biography: Claude Burchett went home to be with his Lord on Friday Jan. 17, 2014, his death was unexpected. Claude was born March 23, 1929 in Carter County KY to the late Jehu and Carrie (Fannin) Burchett. On October 4, 1959 he married his sweetheart Harrietta (Vaughn) Blankenship Burchett and they have shared 54 years of life together. Claude was a beloved husband and loving father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son Richard Blankenship; daughter Patricia Blankenship; great grandson Ethan Cripple Hawk; daughter in law Sherry Blankenship; brothers Roy, Henry, and Charles Burchett; and sisters Viola Horsley and Coza Wells.
In addition to his wife, Claude is survived by sons Robert (Susie) Blankenship, Rural Nevada and Claude Edward Burchett of Colorado; daughter Judith "Judi" (Arthur "Bud") Cripple of Rural Marion; grandchildren Beth (Mike Brown) Howlet, Lisa (Mike) McGuire, Theresa Parker, Richard (Robyn) Blankenship II, Kelly (Jason) Converse, Jason (Courtney) Hawk, Matthew (Whitney) Blankenship, 16 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and brother Wendell (Pat) Burchett of Graceland, KY.
Claude took pride in his work, retiring from Swan Rubber as a maintenance supervisor as well as farming and school bus driving for the Wynford School District where he was affectionately known as "Pappy". He enjoyed farming, gardening, and had a passion for antique cars, especially his 1930 Model A, which he took to car shows, winning many trophies. Claude always enjoyed giving a helping hand to anyone in need.
Claude was a member of the First Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. He was a member of the American Legion Post 181 and the Bucyrus Moose Lodge #669.
The family will receive friends at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Paul Dalrymple officiating, burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens. The family suggest memorials be made to the First Baptist Church or the Gifts for Yanks and expressions of sympathy can be left at munzpirnstill.com
