Biography: Carol E. Rittenour, 86, of Bucyrus passed away peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2016, at Altercare of Bucyrus. Carol was born December 14, 1929 in Crawford County to the late Ernest and Alice (Flickinger) Reinhard. She was married on Christmas Day, December 25, 1948, to Arthur J. “Jim” Rittenour who preceded her in death on June 17, 1990. She was also preceded in death by grandson Craig Rittenour; great grandson Brady Rittenour; brothers Jim, Ed, and Allan Reinhard; sisters Evelyn Neff, Irene Wolff, Margaret Carle, and Barbara Rice; as well as close friend Pauline Linn.
Carol is survived by children Ron, Becky Piper, Mark (Joyce), Carl (Babs), Harold (Tammy), Phil (Shelli), and Judy (Bob) Grochowalski; 15 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sisters Janet Shuck and Kathryn (Charles) Britton; sister- in- law Jean Reinhard; brother- in- law Rod Rice; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Carol is also survived by her church family and Altercare family.
Carol graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1947 where she had been active in sports, cheerleading, and her favorite acappella choir. She worked at General Electric for 26 years and following retirement went to work at Wal-Mart for 7 years. She was a very active member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, served as Sunday School Superintendent, church council, Altar Committee, and was involved with the Ever Faithful Circle. She was also a member of The King’s Daughters and Sons serving in the Gloria Circle. Carol most enjoyed spending time with her family which was her passion. She was an excellent cook and baker. Carol had a truly positive attitude, a great sense of humor, and a smile for everyone.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 12:00 noon at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church with Rev. Tim Nilsen officiating with burial following in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
