Betty May Snavely, 92, of Bucyrus passed away on Thursday April 27, 2023 at DeWolfe Place in Marion, Ohio. Betty was born October 25, 1930 in Mt. Vernon, OH to the late Albert and Lottie (Beller) Ley. She lived in Germany in her early years, and then returned to the United States with her family. She was married June 28, 1953 to Richard “Dick” Snavely who preceded her in death on April 15, 2003. Betty and Dick were a special couple and friends to all. She was also preceded in death by brother, Leo Ley and his wife, Magda; her great-nephew, Jacob Davidson, and niece Jill (Ley) Ehrhart.
Betty is survived by daughter Cynthia “Cindy” Snavely of Delaware, brother Donne (Bonnie) Ley of Bucyrus; nephews and nieces; Tim (Debbie) Ley of Bucyrus, Gregg (Char) Ley of Ft. Pierce, Florida, and Barb (Tom) Davidson of Wharton. She has numerous great-nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She also has step-grandchildren/step-great grandchildren whom she always held sweetly in her heart.
Betty graduated from Bucyrus High School. She started her career as a waitress at Bob’s Sandwich Shop where she met her husband. She worked at the Crawford County Auditor’s office for 33 ½ years. She loved her years at the Auditor’s office. She made precious lifelong friendships while working there. She was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church and the Hannah Circle. Betty had been very active in the Bucyrus Y.M.C.A. and was formerly a Red Hatter.
Betty had a feisty passion for her German heritage. She loved BIG and cared about her family and friends with her entire soul. She will be greatly missed. We will honor Betty by filling the void she leaves with the precious memories she leaves behind and with the new ones we will make as we think about her in the future.
