Betty Jean Groves of Bucyrus passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024 at Altercare of Bucyrus. She was married to the late Alton Eugene Groves October 12, 1950. Betty and Alton enjoyed many activities of a small farm, raising chickens, pigmy goats, huskies, and a large garden of which they both canned together.
Betty worked as an industrial sewer at Baja Boats, Vasils, Stratberry Coat Factory and Newberry Dept. Store. She took classes for tailoring and used her talents to teach young girls to sew at church classes. Betty also enjoyed playing Skipo with her sister Joan.
Alton worked as a welder at Transco, Peabody, Hercules and helping family and friends at Home Sheet Metal and Victor Aluminum. Alton was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy as a Corporal. He enjoyed picnics, hunting, fishing, and joking with nieces and nephews.
Both Betty and Alton enjoyed coffee and cookies with whoever came to visit with a lot of talk and laughter. They both had a strong faith in God and attended church and functions with church friends regularly. They loved their church friends and considered them family.
Alton passed away January 25, 2017 and was preceded in death by his parents Issac and Viola Groves; brothers and sister in laws J.C. (Margaret), Huston (Viola), Oscar (Lucille), Thomas (Barbara), Benton (Janet) Groves; sisters and brother in laws Nettie (Harry) Houk, Della (Alonzo) Sapp, and Rebecca (Carl) Perry.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Allen Merl Mahley and Genevieve (Vess) Easterday as well as sisters and brother in laws Levonne (Bob) Daine and Joan (Paul) Downend.
Betty and Alton are survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held on Thursday February 22, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the Mausoleum Chapel at Crawford County Memory Gardens with Pastor Bob Jividen officiating. Memorial contributions may be offered in her memory to Heritage Bible Church at 193 Marion-Williamsport Rd. East, Marion OH 43302 where they attended.
