Biography: Benton M. Groves, 93, passed away January 6, 2016 peacefully at home. Benton was born to the late Issac and Viola Groves on December 6, 1923 in Portland Tennessee. Benton is preceded in death by parents; wife, Janet L. (Frost) Groves on February 24, 1994; brothers, James Groves, Thomas Groves, J.C. Groves, and Oscar Groves; sisters, Della Sapp, Nettie Houk, and Rebecca Perry; step children, Jerry "Les" Van Meter and Nancy Smathers; step grandchild, Amy Van Meter.
Benton is survived by step son, Bill (Dona) Van Meter of SouthPort North Carolina and step daughter, Sue (Garvan) Bollinger of Bucyrus Ohio; brother, Alton (Betty) Groves of Bucyrus; step grandchildren; Jenna Bollinger, Abby (Eric) Stockmaster, Barry (Chrystal) Van Meter, Brian VanMeter, Lizzy Van Meter, Curtus(Amy) Smathers, 5 step great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Benton has been a resident of Bucyrus for most of his life. He owned and operated Home Sheet Metal from 1973 until he retired in 1991. Was a member of Assembly of God Church. He also served for the United States Army in World War II.
Visiting hours at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, 3:00-5:00 PM Monday January 9 and one hour prior to services.Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00AM at funeral home, with Pastor Bill Van Meter officiating.
